Consumption and Feed-in

When you connect a meter, you specify whether it is a consumption meter or a feed-in meter. This distinction is important for the correct display of your energy data.

Consumption

Consumption is electricity you draw from the grid. This is the standard case for households and businesses without their own generation system. Select "Consumption" if you want to know how much electricity you use.

Feed-in

Feed-in is electricity you supply to the grid — for example from a photovoltaic system, a battery storage unit, or participation in an energy community. Select "Feed-in" if you want to track your electricity generation or export.

When Do You Need Both?

If you operate a PV system, you typically have two separate Zählpunkte — one for consumption and one for feed-in. Each has its own 33-character Zählpunkt number.

You can connect both Zählpunkte in energiedaten.at and analyse them separately. The app shows the appropriate charts and metrics for each meter.

Selecting the Energy Direction in the App

When connecting a meter, you select the energy direction in the form. The platform labels axes, descriptions, and calculations according to this selection.

Changing the Energy Direction Later

You can change the energy direction at any time on the meter's edit page — even after the consent process has been completed. The change affects how charts and labels are displayed, not the data flow itself.
